WTM 2009: Travelzoo expands in UK

Online travel deals publisher Travelzoo has announced new partnerships with AOL, Lonely Planet, SimonSeeks, Skyscanner and VisitBritain.

Under the arrangement, based on a cost per click model, the partner websites feature relevent deals in their sites provided by Travelzoo which link either to its wesbite or direct to an advertiser's.

The launch follows an identical move in the US where it generates 500 million page impressions a month on 150 websites. Travelzoo claimed, at the time of the UK launch, the network already reaches 50 million monthly page views.

Chris Loughlin, Travelzoo managing director, said: "This is a win, win, win. The publishers get high quality checked content that's gone through a rigorous process, the user gets relevant and honest deals and Travelzoo gets a credit and brand extension."

The Publishing Network arm of Travelzoo adds to its existing weekly newsletter highlighting its top 20 deals, a newsflash service, a destinations section of its website, a deals supersearch and metasearch flights site fly.com.

Travelzoo also has a growing presence in the entertainment and attractions market and has recently helped a West End show sell tickets and Chelsea Football Club sell corporate hospitality at a recent Champions League game.

The company claims to have 1.5 million UK subscribers, three million in Europe and 18 million worldwide. Loughlin said around half of its advertisers were third party agents or tour operators and half "asset holders" such as cruise lines or hotels.

Melanie Bower, Travelzoo Network vice-president, said partnerships with the organisations in the UK network were important and a testament to the quality of the content it has.

"We only publish relevant  travel and entertainment deals thast are authentic, checked and truly available. Our partners value out commitment to quality deals - that is why they want to be a part of this network."
