Travelport signs Galileo deal with HWT
Monday, November 02, 2009 Travel technology firm Travelport has extended an exclusive deal with Stella Travel-owned Harvey World Travel to provide it with its Galileo booking system. The Langley-based company, which is due to announce its Q3 results on Thursday, also revealed this morning that yet another low-cost carrier has signed up to its Direct Connect product, which has recently attracted a number of no-frills carriers. Italian airline Wind Jet has signed a full-content agreement to display its fares on the Galileo product, launched last year after easyJet decided to target agents on the GDS for the first time. Four other budget airlines, including JetBlue, have all recently signed up. Another low-cost airline is expected to join the programme in the coming weeks. Company bosses said the development of Direct Connect was a reflection of the growing importance of the low-cost air sector and the demands of its travel agency customers to have content available through the GDS. Massimo Polimeni, Wind Jet’s senior vice-president of sales and marketing, said: “So many travel agents prefer to be able to book through the GDS so this Galileo solution works very well for our business and we look forward to being able to distribute our content more widely.” Travelport unveiled its direct connect solution last year with launch partner easyJet. It has been successfully rolled-out to Galileo travel agencies across Europe and is soon to be launched in the Middle East and Africa. Meanwhile, the full-content agreement with Harvey World Travel takes the duration of the business relationship between the two companies to nearly two decades. David Rivers, Harvey World Travel’s managing director, said the news reaffirmed his company’s partnership with Travelport, which owns both Galileo and Worldspan booking platforms.
