Tourism Queensland seeks island caretaker

Hamilton IslandAgents fed up with the weather and economic doom and gloom might be interested in a travel position being billed as the best job in the world.

Tourism Queensland is advertising for the post of caretaker of Hamilton Island in the Great Barrier Reef, with a salary of £70,000 for six months' work.

The key responsibilities of the live-in position on the luxury island are feeding the turtles and fish, collecting the mail, and occasionally cleaning the pool.

The successful application will also be required to write a weekly blog, keep a photo and video diary and do media interviews.

In return they will get free air fares, accommodation and transport on Hamilton Island (pictured).

Among the skills needed are enthusiasm for snorkelling, a willingness to try new things and an adventurous attitude
