British travellers will be looking further afield for travel experiences in 2009, according to new research carried out by travel add-ons company, Holiday Extras.

In a survey of over 1,000 people’s travel ambitions for 2009, almost half (48%) of the respondents dreamt of “doing something totally different and really memorable” .

A further third (31%) were looking to discover a new destination.

Only 14% of people did not want to change their travel preferences but 7% are now considering staying in the UK for their holiday as the downturn continues.

"With the pound currently weak against both the dollar and the euro, it is perhaps no surprise that many people are looking to new and different destinations for their holidays," said Mike Whiting, managing editor at Holiday Extras.
