Norman Lamont: recession expert
Lord Lamont was chancellor during the last recession under prime minister John Major.

He resigned after Black Monday when sterling was forced to leave the European exchange rate mechanism, despite his putting interest rates to record highs in an effort to keep it in.

Abta said Lamont’s experience put him in a good position to chart the likely course of this recession and the outlook for UK business.

Chief executive Mark Tanzer said: “He has been at the heart of this country’s finances and had to make tough decisions in harsh conditions.”

The convention takes place on October 6-8.
