Cliff Richard backs Nixon's simonseeks.com
Wednesday, June 17, 2009 The former Shadows front man, who owns properties in Barbados and Portugal, has penned a series of articles about his favourite holiday destinations for new travel guide website, Simonseeks.com, launched today. The review site claims to be more sophisticated than anything online as guides have to be approved by a team of professional travel journalists before going live. Users select a guide based on destination, budget and type of holiday desired and contributors stand to earn a cut of any booking made through their words on the web. The success of each guide depends on ratings by the users. Nixon has struck several commercial deals with travel distributors through which holidays can be bought by clicking through from the guide. But he insisted the project was not a threat to agents. “The is an opportunity for travel partners, whether that’s journalists, enthusiasts or people in the travel industry, to promote themselves online by monetising quality editorial,” he said. Agents are being encouraged to contribute to the site as a way of publicising their businesses and driving traffic back to their own sites. Nixon is targeting 20,000 guides in year one and a position in the top ten travel website on the internet. He founded travelsupermarket.com and moneysupermarket.com 10 years ago. They were floated on the stock exchange in 2007 for £850 million, although Nixon retains a 53% stake. • Travelsupermarket adds isango! to site (4 Feb 2009) • Donoghue quits Tui for TravelSupermarket.com (14 Apr 2008)
