Ryanair claims BA's 'world's favourite' tag

Monday, July 06, 2009

Ryanair today laid claim to the title of “world’s favourite airline”, saying it was now “twice the size" of British Airways.

It commandeered BA’s famous advertising slogan after passenger figures for June showed the no-frills airline carried 5.8 million passengers against BA’s 2.9 million.

Ryanair’s passenger numbers grew 13% year-on-year last month, but BA’s fell 4.9% to 2,930,000.

Ryanair spokesman Stephen McNamara said: “Ryanair continues to grow traffic each month as passengers opt for Ryanair’s guaranteed lowest fares and no fuel surcharge over BA’s high fares and unjustified fuel surcharges.

“Ryanair now carries twice BA’s monthly worldwide traffic and we will continue to grow as Ryanair continues to lower fares."

Ryanair are deliciously eccentric - truly the mavericks of the airways!

It would be such a boring marketplace without Ryanair's outrageuos PR! Who would brighten our dull working days then?

I can't imagine any marginally intelligent person actually believes their old tosh enough to try and make sense of it though!

Very rich indeed, 145 destinations ( as advertised on the Ryanair website) does not constitute the "World" let alone "favourite".

That's a bit rich, just because Ryanair claim to carry twice the amount of BA's traffic and growing doesn't mean they can claim to be the World's favourite airline. I would just like to remind the latest graduate from the O'Leary school of charm Stephen McNamara that big is not always beautiful, this latest 'press release' from them reminds me of a line from an old TV sitcom from years ago called the Rag Trade -'Never mind the quality, feel the width'. It seems quite appropriate in Ryanair's case !
