Kuoni builds island in Second Life

Kuoni has created an island in the virtual world of Second Life, giving visitors a travel book to chart their trips.

Second Life describes itself as “a 3D virtual world where users can socialise, connect and create using voice and text chat.” Other travel companies have dabbled with it, including STA Travel, Starwood Hotels and Comtec. Last year TTG's Matt Parsons took a virtual travel tour of Second Life with Synthravels.

Kuoni’s island is called Inouk – which spells Kuoni backwards. It includes a 3D globe, which includes travel information on various destinations, and visitors can teleport directly from Inouk to anywhere in Second Life.

Visitors are given a travel book full of tips, and games are on offer, including The Labyrinth and Snowball Battle.

Chief information officer Bojan Jokic said: “We want to explore, research and better understand the ways these virtual communities communicate; and we want to gather as much experience as possible here which we can feed into future Kuoni projects.”

Inouk was created by Kuoni employees, Second Life members and IT company Crealogix. A launch party will be held on the island on April 10 at 19.00 GMT.
